About the concert

This was a busy day for The Beatles which began by cancelling their usual lunchtime slot at the Cavern Club so they could drive to London to audition for BBC to assess their potential for a possible television debut. The 10-minute audition was not initiated by the Beatles or by Brian Epstein, but rather by Beatles fan David John Smith who had convinced the BBC that he was their manager.

After the audition, the Beatles raced back to Liverpool and the Tower Ballroom to play at the 12th Annual Arts Ball.

This was The Beatles’ 24th show at the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton, Wallasey. Also on the bill were Billy Kramer and the Coasters, the Llew Hird Jazz Band and the Clan McCleod Pipe Band, and the compere and M.C. for the evening was none other than Bob Wooler!

Please note: this is a vintage-style reproduction print and is not an original vintage concert poster.
