This is a reproduction vintage print of The Great Wave - an iconic print created by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai in 1831.
Although now commonly called 'The Great Wave' the official title of the print is called 'Under the Wave off Kanagawa' and is the first in a series of prints, Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji.
The image today is the most iconic non-Western image in art. It's so recognizable, in fact, that almost two centuries later, it's the only famous work of art to have its own emoji.
The print was made using the Ukiyo-e Japanese printmaking technique which flourished in the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and and then added coloured ink. The Great Wave was among the first paintings to feature the Prussia Blue pigment which was newly available for the print market.
Printed on 300gsm quality paper this print comes ready framed, with a total size of 47cm x 34cm.
